SAFARI GUIDE TO UGANDA

Kampala & Entebbe

Kampala and Entebbe are gateways for safari in Uganda, each offering a unique experience within relatively easy distance of the other.

The leafy suburbs of Entebbe are also home to Uganda’s international airport, serving as the main entry point for visitors arriving in the country. Entebbe is characterized by its tranquil atmosphere and lush greenery, making it a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Visitors can explore the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, where they can enjoy scenic nature walks and observe diverse bird species, including the rare shoebill stork. The nearby Mabamba Wetlands offer fantastic birdwatching opportunities and boat rides through the swamp, providing a chance to see a variety of waterbirds in their natural habitat.

Entebbe is also known for Ngamba Island, a sanctuary for orphaned chimpanzees, where visitors can learn about chimpanzee conservation and observe these remarkable primates up close. For those looking to relax, Lake Victoria cruises provide a picturesque way to experience the beauty of the lake, often featuring stunning sunsets and opportunities to spot local wildlife along the shoreline.

Roughly 30 kilometers away lies Kampala, Uganda’s vibrant capital, known for its rich cultural heritage and bustling energy. Kampala is a city where tradition meets modernity, offering an array of attractions that reflect its historical significance.

Visitors can explore the grounds of the Buganda Palace, the seat of the Buganda Kingdom, or visit the impressive Gaddafi Mosque, which boasts stunning architecture and panoramic views of the city from the minaret. Local markets provide an authentic taste of Ugandan life, and a visit to Hornbill’s partner schools in the Kampala region are a chance to learn more about our giving programs and see firsthand how your safari makes a difference.

IN DETAIL

Kampala & Entebbe

I recently returned from spending an incredible nine days exploring Uganda, all organized by Hornbill. They were incredibly helpful in the pre-trip stage with visa support, suggested packing lists, and useful destination info. My on-trip experience couldn't have been better. We had several incredible safaris in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and of course the ultimate bucket list item - gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Our guides Milton and Medi were super knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend Hornbill to anyone looking for a well rounded and seamless travel experience in Uganda. Webale!
