Kampala and Entebbe both hold significant roles in Uganda’s history, reflecting the country’s rich cultural heritage and colonial past. Entebbe, situated along the shores of Lake Victoria, served as the British colonial administrative center until Uganda’s independence in 1962. Its historical buildings, including the State House, echo this era, while its tranquil atmosphere offers a contrast to the bustling capital nearby.
Kampala, built on seven hills, has long been the heart of Uganda’s cultural and political life. It is the center of the Buganda Kingdom, one of Uganda’s most influential traditional kingdoms, which has shaped the region’s identity for centuries. The city is home to landmarks like the Buganda Palace and the Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Buganda kings are laid to rest. Today, Kampala is a dynamic urban center where tradition blends seamlessly with modernity, reflecting Uganda’s resilience and growth since independence.
I recently returned from spending an incredible nine days exploring Uganda, all organized by Hornbill. They were incredibly helpful in the pre-trip stage with visa support, suggested packing lists, and useful destination info. My on-trip experience couldn't have been better. We had several incredible safaris in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and of course the ultimate bucket list item - gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Our guides Milton and Medi were super knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend Hornbill to anyone looking for a well rounded and seamless travel experience in Uganda. Webale!
